KOURI ISLAND:

OKINAWA CHURAUMI AQUARIUM:
- Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is part of Ocean Expo Park.
- The aquarium was designed by Yukifusa Kokuba and was opened on 01/11/02.
- “Chura” means “beautiful” or “graceful” in the Okinawan Japanese dialect and “umi” means “ocean” in Japanese.
- The aquarium is made up of 4 floors with a total of 77 tanks containing 10,000m3 of water.
- Saltwater is pumped into the aquarium 24 hours a day.
- The main tank (Kuroshio Sea), is 35m long, 27m wide and 10m deep. It holds 7,500m3 of water and features an acrylic glass 8.2m high by 22.5m long with a thickness of 0.6m.
