MARIENPLATZ:
- Marienplatz (Mary’s Square) is Munich’s best known plaza with lots of tourists year round.
- New City Hall (Neues Rathaus) with it’s gothic architecture was built between 1867 and 1909. Its main tower is 85 m high. Ratskeller, a large restaurant, is located at the basement.
- The Glockenspiel is the famous clock of the New City Hall which chimes daily at 11am, 12pm and 5pm.
- At the center of Marienplatz is the large column of St. Mary (Mariensaule). On the top is a gilded statue of the Virgin Mary. It was erected in 1638.
